    Deep Roots

    We moved to the mountains of Monroe County, West Virginia just in time for me to celebrate my third birthday. My Dad had built a one room tar paper shack with a bunk bed, shelves lining the walls, and a pot bellied coal burning stove. We had a grand carriage house window on the front of our house to let light in and Mom planted irises and peonies in a creek rock bordered flower bed out front, they are still there all these years later.
